Close racing order of day at Prokart Sprint Series round 2

SUPER SINGLE SPRINTS ROUND 2

Report by Graeme Neilson

ROUND 2 of the Super Single Sprint Series took place at Vereeniging kart circuit this past weekend.

4 Karts participated in the 50 cc Minion class 9 karts in the 160 cc Midget class And 13 karts in the 390 cc class.

In the Minion class, Leandro Figuera was once again on top form and secured and overall win for the day. New to the class was Keanu Jardim, who seemed a bit nervous in the beginning, but started to find his rhythm later on in the day. Jemma Neilson kept Leandro as honest as possible, and came home with a 2nd overall. Hayley Scheepers, showed massive improvement, and was right in the mix of things, but sadly bent her axle in the last heat. Well done to all these little warriors. Even though there were only 4 in the class, it was still great to see those juggling positions, and sometimes going three wide through the corners.

The 160 Midget class, was made up of a lot of tussling and battling. These karts are really close now, and there’s just no room for error. Aeron Wecke was also back in top form and took the overall win for the day, followed by Christiaan Van Wyk in 2nd, and Eduan Naude in 3rd.

The 390 class, was another close field, with the only difference in time being the guys on new rubber vs, the guys on older rubber. Luckily we were blessed with a grippy track from the previous days 2 stroke race, so lap times were in the lower part of 56’s. 4stroke workshop took top honors, followed by Niewen Auto Select in 2nd, and Team Logan in 3rd.

It was great to see some of the newer teams right up at the front of the pack, showing just how competitive this series is. The pits were filled with the “I lost it here,…. and You pipped me there….” stories, and once again a lot of smiles and great camaraderie, which is what SSS is all about!

This is a great class for the 1 man 1 kart scenario, as well as those teams looking to have a dedicated practice for the 6 hour, so come and join us on the 12th of April for the next instalment.
