The 5th round of the 2019 championship has already come and gone, schools are done with 2nd term and are on holiday and we have passed the halfway mark for 2019 with just 191 days left until 2020.
However, the Prokart Championship is far from finished and the 2nd half of the season promises to be very exciting. Looking at the updated championship tables , it is extremely close in the Endurance class with only 10 points separating 1st to 5th. This class has had 4 different race winners in the last 5 rounds. Mac Minarelli is on the top spot with 180 points, 2P Racing and Team SPH tied in 2nd place with 177 points, Hubbit Racing is 4th with 171 points and Rogue Racing in 5th place with 170 points after having a very unfortunate accident yesterday. We are very pleased to hear that Dewald Brummer is ok : ” I’m all good and cleared thanks. Bruised and sore but nothing broken.👍🏼” says Brummer. Thank you to the medical team and officials who assisted in ensuring Dewald’s safety.
The Sprint 390 class also had its own share of shake ups in the championship table, with Pit Viper taking a further lead of 19 points over Duncan Howie, who is now in 2nd place and Sidewinder only 1 point behind Duncan on 145 points having dropped to 3rd place. F & D Racing is 4th with 144 points and Kaysys in 5th place on the table, closing in fast in his bid to reach the top having taken overall winner for the day. Vehicular Freak 1 and RadRace in 6th and 7th are also only 1 and 2 points behind Kaysys. This championship is clearly still up for grabs over the next 5 rounds.
In the Midgets class, the points table seems a bit more spread out, but don’t forget that anything can happen over the next 5 rounds that can easily see this championship looking very different at end of the year. Tyler Robinson, Simone Jacobs and Cyril Jacobs currently hold the top 3 spots with only 33 points separating them. Tyler’s lead of 16 points over Simone is still not enough to secure the championship this early and with Cyril also a further 17 points back, there is still alot of work to be done by all 3 to chase that overall win. Calvin Laubscher is also only 2 points behind Cyril and a race win or podium position in the next few rounds for Calvin could easily change the order for the top 4.
The Minions have their own heated battle on their hands with Reagile Mailula leading by only 10 points over D’Niell Gouws, and Santiego Frade and Lex Foxcroft a seemingly distant 3rd and 4th and left fighting for the final podium step having each missed 2 rounds this year.
We have seen a few new teams joining the championship in the Endurance and Sprint 390 classes, also adding some excitement to the mix. Welcome to Endurance teams Infinite Racing (#64) and Shady Boys 2 (#888) taking 9th and 7th place respectively on their debut. Expect more from these teams, they are big challengers. Sprint 390 also welcomes teams 2F (#222), Danie Grobbelaar (#24) and K9 Racing (#77), all showing great pace in their first event.
