DeTomaso Round 2 Entries now open

Hi Prokarters,

Round 1 was a great success, thank you everyone for your support, especially our sponsor, TrevPAR World.

Round 2 will be held at Laserfiche Raceway, in reverse direction (anti-clockwise). We believe that many of you have been practising, which is great. We welcome DeTomaso Trading as a featured sponsor for this round. Shárnel Berner has shared some very interesting details about their business and history with motorsport. It’s really great to know that we have such rich motorsport history right here within our own series and that businesses like DeTomaso Trading have chosen to embrace that heritage and carry that history forward for generations to come. Racing and the love of motorsport is in our blood. Please support them by visiting their website and liking their facebook page.

DeTomaso is actually the name of an Italian sports car and Shárnel’s father actually owned a DeTomaso Pantera GT5 back in the day. It looks very similar to the Lamborghini Countach. Here is an extract from WikiPedia about this very interesting car:

De Tomaso Modena SpA was an Italian car-manufacturing company. It was founded by the Argentine-born Alejandro de Tomaso(1928–2003) in Modena in 1959. It originally produced various prototypes and racing cars, including a Formula One car for Frank Williams’s team in 1970. Most of the funding for the automaker came from de Tomaso’s brother-in-law, Armory Haskell Jr, Rowan Industries. In 1971, Ford acquired an 84 % stake in De Tomaso from Rowan with Alejandro de Tomaso himself holding the balance.[

The blue and white stripes of the logo’s background are the colors of the national flag of Argentina. The symbol in the foreground that looks like a letter “T” is the cattle branding symbol of the Ceballos estate where Alejandro grew up.[2]

The company went on to develop and produce both sports cars and luxury vehicles, most notably the Ford-powered Italian-bodied Mangusta and Pantera gran turismos. From 1976 to 1993 De Tomaso owned Italian sports car maker Maserati, and was responsible for producing cars including the Biturbo, the KyalamiQuattroporte IIIKarif, and the Chrysler TC. De Tomaso also owned motorcycle company Moto Guzzi from 1973 to 1993.  Elvis Presley also owned a Pantera, proving that the old chap could sing and had good taste in cars!!
