#23 Team Kart Shoppe – 2014 Prokart SSS Endurance Series and Index of Performance champions.

Phew!!!. What a season and what a final race.

Round 10 was the championship decider and it turned out to be a thriller, with close racing throughout the field. One of the reasons to be part of this Series.

Heat 1. With the grid formed up in reverse order of the championship standings, it was an opportunity for the “back markers” to strut their stuff. And they did it good effect. With the exception #43 Southbank, who started reasonably near the front , as their championship position dictated, the other contenders had their work cut out for them.

#43 Southbank were out of the blocks like a scalded cat heading for the north bank and soon had established a significant lead over the othe contenders fighting their way through from the back. An indication of of how close the competition has become is that it took #23 Team kart Shoppe the better part of 30 minutes to get into the top five positions. #13 Containerforce were struggling with a bad vibration at the front which turned out to be kingpin nylocks that had managed to work themselves loose. They struggled on to 8th place which didn’t do their title chances any good. The highlight of the first heat was #60 Team F60 (aka Old Farts), who showed some serious pace to come to finish a well deserved 5th place ahead of #46 Team SPH,  #13 Containerforce, #25 Phoenix, who have risen from the ashes of the nether regions of the field, #94 Furmanite, showing “firm” resolve and #9o Titan Racing, who have clearly been on the Tim Noakes weight loss program.

#43 Southbank ran out the winners of the first but later, in heat 2, ran into a rules infringement which caused them to be disqualified from the event. It was a regrettable decision, but it is team responsibility to know the rules backwards. Ignorance is no excuse.

Heat 2. The grid was formed up according to the fastest laps in heat 1, which placed #43 Souhbank on pole with #40 Screwloose in P2. The start was a much closer affair with the top ten changing places on a regular basis. #13 Containerforce was showing much improved pace after some radical set up changes at the break and were soon challenging for third place with #54 Ghost Karting, #29 Hoffmann racing, with #23 Kart Shoppe coming back from a spin early on. #90 Team Titan blew a hole in their motor that ended their race after only 8 laps. Team Motul Honda were showing good pace after being forced to retire from heat 1 with a variety of mechanical issues. At the first driver change, it was really close between #29 Hoffmann Racing and #13 Containerforce, for second place. #13 Containerforce just managed to get out the pits ahead of #29 Hoffmann Racing, but going side by side into the chicane, contact saw #13 Containerforce spinning off. A spirited fight  back by #13 and some bad luck with mechanical issues by #29 saw Containerforce regain the position and at the second driver change were a scant 3 seconds behind #23 Kart Shoppe. In the mean time #43 Southbank had been notified of their penalty and shortly thereafter retired with a bent chassis. #14 Team Dask had been strong throughout heat 2 and managed to overhaul #13 Containerforce for a well deserved 2nd place. A fast finishing #60 Old farts (aka Team F60) came 4th for their best result of the season.

Overall for the day went to #23 Team Kart Shoppe, followed by #14 Team Dask, #29 Hofmann racing, #13 Containerforce and #60 team F60 (aka Old farts).
